Kraken Adventours is no ordinary start up business. The founders began the company to provide excursion facilities to guesthouses. But they had no start up funds or investors. Just an idea.
Luck favors the bold and when the Government launched the Get Set loans, Kraken's Managing Director Ahmed Riyaz was one applicant to the loan. Their proposal earned the company a start up loan of MVR 800,000.
"Actually MVR 800,000 is a very small amount to start a business of this nature. But it became a vital part of the business. Get Set is small to start a business. But then we branched out, added in new investors and brought in more cash," Ahmed said.
Kraken Adventours now caters to tourists main from guesthouses, providing fishing trips and excursions.
"Most guesthouses do not have excursion facilities. So we're catering to this gap," he said.
Kraken's unique features
Kraken's unique selling point comes from the specially crafted vessel. Built by local craftsmen, the vessel is in black, streamlined for high speed travel.
"The launch was built by Offshore Yard (Suja) team. It's completely different and in black," Ahmed said.
Kraken in Vacations Expo
Kraken Adventours have a stall in the ongoing Vacations Expo and has offered a big game fishing trip for 8 persons. In addition to the free trip, the stall will provide information on Kraken and their trip options.
"We're not just targeting tourists. We provide weekend excursions and localized excursions too," he said.
Ahmed Riyaz said the company will show case their launch in the upcoming Marine Expo as well.
