MV Twitsal: less that 20 days to go!

With less that 20 days to go for the seventh edition of MV Twitsal, preparations and practices are underway for the one-day futsal tournament. The tournament aimed at and run by the twitter community in the country.

When MV Twitsal began seven years ago, only two teams played that year. Only one match was played. Then Twitter was not so widely used. The Twitter community was not the community it is today.

This year, 11 teams and around 130 players will contest this year. Three teams will contest in the women's league. Eight teams in two groups will contest the men's league. Teams at the top of the groups will go to the semi-finals.

Speaking to Avas about the start of Twitsal, one of the key organizers Evan said that the aim of the tournament was to create a platform for Twitter users to interact and meet.

"The first Twitsal was very small. Two teams and we played the one match that day," he said.

Times have changed for the tournament and Twitsal has grown to a bigger one. Evan said that this year, a team of around 230 organizers are behind the tournament.

With Hassan Marine as the main sponsors, an additional seven brands and/ or companies, including BHM's OWL coffee, Sonee Sports and Gorilla Energy Drink.

It is not only Twitsal that formed out from the Twitter community. Twitsal was also the starting platform for the Twitsal cares initiative to provide assistance to those in need. Twitsal had planned to provide assistance to the residents of the Center for Individuals with Special Needs. Twitsal has opened the opportunity for all to contribute to this program.
