Imports drop by two percent, exports by 30 percent

Maldives Customs Services reveals that exports into Maldives has dipped by two percent, with exports falling by 30 percent overall.

Customs statistics for July show that the CIF value of imported goods dropped by two percent, with MVR 2.1 billion worth of goods imported in last July. This value was at MVR 2.2 billion last year July.

Customs says last year July, MVR 204 million worth of goods were exported but this year July the number is at MVR 143 million. The exports have held steady in the past six months, though the exports have also dipped comparing on an annual basis.

Customs said the import duty and fee earnings for the period had increased to MVR 196 million from last year's MVR 185 million.
