President Yameen accepts PPM PG invitation

President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom has accepted the invitation extended by the Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) for discussions to resolve the issues facing the Party.

The discussions were held today in Muleeaage from 10 am to 11 am.

Speaking to Avas after the meeting, MP Nihan said the PG had formally extended the invitation for talks to both President Yameen and PPM Leader and former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom yesterday. He said the President had accepted the invitation and gave a time for discussions. He noted this showed a commitment on the President's part to resolve the current situation and had spoken of this in the meting. MP Nihan added that the PG will also seek to work towards this objective as well.

"We discussed on what we can do if the negotiations fail. But the President stressed upon resolving this through dialogue. He accepted the invitation for this," Nihan said.

MP Nihan said that former President Maumoon is yet to issue a reply to the letter the PG sent. He added the PG hoped for a positive response from the former President, marking the former President had a singular, pivotal role to play in resolving the issues. He said the PG had requested a response before the 16th of this month.

"We're the strongest body in the Party and the most active one as well. That's why we took the initiative on resolving this issue. We hope that we can get Maumoon's assistance on this," Nihan said.

MP Nihan concluded by saying that President Yameen had a strong vision for the Party's future.
