Tourist arrivals up, occupancy hits 77 percent

Tourism Ministry statistics has shown that tourist arrivals increased by 2.3 percent with occupancy rates now hitting 75 percent.

Tourism Ministry statistics show that by end of August 2016, 842,635 tourists had arrived. The number was at 823,766 in August 2015.

Breaking down the statistics, Russian tourists accounted for 28,835 arrivals - an increase of 0.6 percent from last year's arrivals of 28,655 tourists.

UK arrivals are up significantly compared to the previous year. This year, 68,286 tourists had arrived from UK, a rise of 10.6 percent compared to last year's arrivals of 61,720.

Italy arrivals increased by 8.5 percent. Last year, 43,995 arrivals came in from Italy. This year the number is at 47,750 arrivals. German arrivals recorded a 2.1 percent increase, with 66,797 arrivals. Last year, Germans accounted for 65,414 arrivals.

However, the Chinese market recorded a more than significant drop in arrivals, with the number dipping by 11.5 percent. Last year, arrivals from China market were at 260,491. This year the figure is at 230,437.

Ministry statistics also show that there are 110 resorts, 13 hotels, 84 guesthouses and 87 safaris in operation across the country. In all the sector has 28,000 beds, with tourists spending a total of 4,773,540 days in the country. Resorts occupancy rates are at 77.8 percent.
