Ex- Home Minister Umar Naseer appointed to PPM Council

Former Home Minister Umar Naseer has been appointed to Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) Council. While Umar Naseer was appointed to the Council today, three were dismissed from the Council today.

Deputy Leader Abdhu Raheem Abdullah, Zahid Rameez and Youth Council President Ibrahim Yoosuf were dismissed from their respective positions today.

Umar Naseer was appointed to the Council as a member appointed by the Party's leader in place of Abdhu Raheem.

As per clause 29, subsection (a) (12) of the Party bylaws, the Party President can appoint members to the Council after consulting the members of the Council.

The Council is comprised of Party President, Party Advisor, PG Leader, three Deputy Leaders, 10 Parliament Members, four female members elected by the National Assembly, additional 10 members, Presidents of Youth, Women and Scholars chapters and representatives from the Committees.

It is yet to be confirmed whether Umar Naseer's appointment was made with the Council's advice.

In the letter, President Maumoon said Abdhu Raheem is one of the three members he elected to PPM Council and as such his conduct was unacceptable. The letter also said many members of the Party had complained regarding the Deputy Leader as well.

Ibrahim Yoosuf Fulhu was dismissed from the Youth chapter as he had turned 31, making him ineligible to serve in the chapter. Zahid was dismissed as his conduct was not befitting as a member appointed by the President.
