While the Maumoon faction has announced this, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom's faction of PPM has decided to open a new office at Dharubaaruge in preparation for the Local Council Elections. They have decided to open this office to form submissions as well.
At the news conference held today at the PPM main office, member of the PPM Elections Committee Ali Rasheed said that all the tasks related to elections are assigned to this Committee. Party laws on national elections states that all election related activities will be overseen by the head of this Committee. It also states everything regarding the elections must be overseen by the Elections Committee.
This Committee will also administer all the affairs of potential candidates and this will be finalized at the Party's main office by the Party's Register. The PPM Elections Committee was voted in by the last national meeting of the Party.
President Yameen's faction, who are also preparing for the Council Elections, say that the Party's Council has formed a new Committee to deal with the elections.
Regarding this, Ali Rasheed said that the Council did form a committee, but that this committee was merely an advisory committee for the campaign. He also said the responsibility to run all the campaigns is in the hand of the Party's Election Committee.
The Secretary General appointed by the Maumoon Faction, Abdul Aleem said that the ticket for candidates to participate in the Local Council Elections will be given with the signature of Party President, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom.
