High Court has scheduled the hearing for the request to overturn the sentence of the Civil Court in the PPM case. If nothing new is brought to this case today, a sentence will be issued.
While the case has been scheduled for 3:45 today, the request to overturn the Civil Courts ruling was requested in the High Court by PPM member Abbas Wareef. Abbas filed this request in court while Maumoon was preparing for this case. By the time the hearings had started, Maumoon had also entered into the case.
While the hearings for the case had ended yesterday, a special message by Maumoon was given to the court at the chance for a final statement. The message was delivered by Maumoon's elder daughter, Yumna Maumoon. Maumoon said in the message, to take into account everything that has been said and to bring a just and equal verdict to this case.
And he requested to bring a fast end to this case.
At yesterday's hearing, the motivation of Abbas was questioned by Maumoon's lawyers for the second time. Maumoon's lawyer Hussein Suoodh said yesterday that Abbas is good friends with Parliament Member for the Naifaru constituency Ahmed Shiyaam and Member for the Hulhudhoo constituency Mohamed Shaheed who had filed the case in Civil Court, and that their is evidence for this fact.
But Head Judge Abdulla Didi said that point cannot be discussed further.
The lawyer for the two members, Ibrahim Riza said that Maumoon's side was pointing to things that were not discussed in the lower court, and he noted that things not stated in the lower court could not be stated in the upper court as well.
