The former coach of the Sri Lankan national volleyball team, Kumara Wendakoon, has been made the new trainer for the Maldivian national volleyball team.
Under Wendakoon's guidance, the Sri Lankan team traveled to the finals of this years South Asian games and won the silver medal. Wendakoon's first task at his new position would be to get the Maldivian team ready for the Central Zone Volleyball Tournament to be held in Dahka, Bangladesh next December.
The president of the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM) said that even though Wendakoon has been brought in as a trainer, they are contemplating on bringing a Maldivian as the coach.
VAM said a new coach would be appointed after the upcoming national tournament.
VAM is preparing to establish a training camp in Sri Lanka to prepare for the Central Zone tournament. The training camp will proceed under Wendakoon's guidance.
