New SG aims to take Maldives volleyball to new heights

The new General Secretary of the Volleyball Association of Maldives (VAM), Mohamed Adam says that his top priority is to establish volleyball as a main sport in the Maldives through new opportunities for Maldivian volleyball.

Adam, who was also the General Secretary of the Maldivian Basketball Association (MBA) and Football Association of Maldives (FAM), says that a plan has been drafted on ways to take this step forward, and that it has been sent to the executive committee of VAM.

"I have drafted a plan for Maldivian volleyball and sent it to the President of VAM (Mohamed Latheef). The details of the plan will be discussed by the executive committee, and we will move forward with it as soon as it receives approval," Mohamed Adam said.

"Recenty, people have seen me working in FAM. Some people have raised questions about this. I worked in the MBA previously as well, and a Maldivian basketball team has not traveled abroad for an international competition after the Indian Ocean Island Games in 1979 since I have left. I had made great efforts to see the arrangements made for the Maldivian basketball team to compete abroad," Adam also said.

While working at FAM, Mohamed Adam played a crucial role in arranging the 'Minivan 50 Championship' as the chairman of the organizing committee. He was also the acting General Secretary of FAM, and has said that there is no going away from football for him.

Mohamed Adam has coached a Sri Lankan team, and won the Lankan competition for his team becoming the first Maldivian coach to get silverware for a foreign team.

Mohamed Latheed, President of VAM, has said that they were looking for someone who has the capacity for someone who can market volleyball and make it a brand in the Maldives, and that he believes Mohamed Adam is the man for this job.
