Maldives authorities Tuesday warned locals to be wary of US visa waiver hoax indicating that Maldivians no longer need a visa to enter the US.
An online news report claiming that the US state department had updated the number of qualified Visa Waiver Programme designated countries from 38 to 39 to include the Maldives.
According to the information, Maldivian passport holders no longer require visas to travel to the United States.
However, Maldives immigration along with the foreign ministry refuted the report insisting that there has been no change in US visa policy for Maldives.
Immigration urged the public to be wary of such reports and reminded that such changes to visa policies would be officially publicized.
