Maldives records 7% rise in tourist arrivals for September

The central bank of Maldives reveals that the amount of tourists that arrived in the September of this year has increased.

The statistics of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) show that 101,909 tourists visited the Maldives by the end of September. August had a 9% lower arrival rate when compared to September.

Tourism records show that the main increase in the arrivals were from Europe and the Middle East. But the Chinese market, the biggest contributor for Maldives tourism, continued to slide in September.

MMA said that tourists spent an average of 5.5 nights in the Maldives last September, but that the amount has decreased to 5.3 this September. But as the total amount of nights tourists spent increased during this period, the occupancy rate of the Maldives had gone up to 64%.
