A local boat out fishing near Kaaf Atoll Gaafaru island caught fire Saturday.
Coast guard confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident that occurred around 10.45am Saturday.
The cause of the fire remains unclear but the coast guard said it was looking into the incident.
Gaafaru council member Ali Hashim said a dozen people had been on-board the vessel and had jumped overboard after the fire broke out.
Hashim said the fire had now been put out and efforts are now underway to tow the vessel back to the island.
