Five star Maldives starts with victory in SAFF Women's Championship

Maldives heads off to a running start in the SAFF Women's Championship with a hat-trick by captain Faduvaa Zahir helping the team secure a 5-2 victory against Sri Lanka.

Nepal and Bhutan, the other two countries in Group A alongside Maldives also played on Monday, with Nepal dominating the match with an 8-0 scoreline.

Only one match will be played of the tournament on Tuesday, between host country India and Afghanistan.

The second Maldivian match of the tournament will be played against Nepal on Wednesday. The first Maldivian target of the tournament is to advance to the semi finals.
