Fire prevention systems have been established in all the schools around the Maldives in preparation for the academic new year.
The military's 'Sifainge Welfare Company' (SIWEC) has placed fire prevention systems in 215 schools under this project.
The Education Ministry said school employees would also be given the proper training to make complete use of the fire prevention systems.
A total of MVR3.5 million has been spent on the project which will see SIVEC maintain the systems for the following five years.
An emergency evacuation plan has also been put in place at schools regarding the safety of students should a fire occur.
The academic year for 2017 will start on the 8th of January.
