Three new airlines to start flights to Maldives

The Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) have informed that three new airlines are set to begin flights to the Maldives this year.

The company informed that the three airlines are of Chinese, European and Indian origin.

"Discussions are taking place among other airlines, Indian direct flights are among this. Hopefully, three or four new airlines will begin routes to the Maldives," Adil said. He informed that the airport had experienced record amount of traffic this previous year, and that this is predicted for the future.

"This shows that tourism will improve, so we see efforts to improve the airport as crucial," he informed.

He further said that interest had been expressed in establishing flight routes between two cities in India and the Maldives.

Airlines had come in to the Maldives in record number for the New Year. The movement of 508 aircraft were recorded this year. The Chinese national airline, Air China is also set to begin trips to Maldives this year.
