Maldives govt plans tourism investment forum in Addu

The government has decided to host a tourism investment forum in the southernmost Atoll Addu City.

In a visit to Addu City, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer told Avas that Addu is set to be the focus of this forum due to the burgeoning tourism opportunities in the southern city.

"We are looking to hold this investment forum in Addu by February. This forum will be a special forum for Maldivian investment," the Minister said.

"The Addu guesthouse trade has seen increasing opportunities so we have to bring in the resources to utilize these opportunities."

The Minister stated that investors and businessmen from all over the country would be taking part in the forum, which will be targeted at water sports, guesthouses as well as integrated tourism. The Minister said the preparations to hold the forum is already underway.

He also stated that the scheduled international flights can only continue to Gan International Airport if the tourism base in Addu grows stronger, adding that the government is looking to conduct surveys to identify the available opportunities.

The Minister further noted that an Integrated Tourism Development Corporation (MITDC) office would also be opened in Addu City.
