Maldives loses Central Zone Qualifying opener

Maldives lost the first match of the Central Zone Qualifying, for the volleyball Women's World Championship to Nepal on Friday.

Nepal won the first two sets 17-25 before winning the third set 13-25.

The main setback faced by the Maldives team was its failure to show the dominance it displayed early in the game and to hold leads throughout the game.

An opening ceremony for the tournament was held before the competition started, with sports minister Iruthisham Adam attending as the chief guest. The Iran women's team was also present for the ceremony.

Nepal and Iran will face in the second match of the tournament later Saturday.
