Elections Commission (EC) has decided to allow political parties, observers and monitors to bring in voter lists to polling stations during the upcoming local council elections.
EC member Ahmed Akram said Monday that the decision was made after the advisory committee for the elections proposed the idea which was subsequently passed unanimously by the committe members. A representative of each local political party was included in the committee.
As per the present regulation, no documents other than the ones used in the polling stations would be allowed to be brought in.
Akram explained that the main purpose of the decision was to make the elections more free and transparent. He further stated that allowing observers and monitors to bring in the lists would make it easier for them to ensure a fair election.
The Local Council Elections will be held on the 15th of April.
