Maziya emerges victorious in Mohun Bagan clash

Maziya Sports and Recreational Club emerged victorious in their AFC Cup group stage tie with Mohun Bagan the team leading the I-league of India.

After winning 1-0, Maziya have moved to second place of the group winning two out of their three matches. The runner up of the last AFC Cup, Bengaluru FC leads the group with nine points after winning all three of their group stage ties.

Mohamed Umair scored the only goal of the match in the 34th minute with an assist from defender Samooh Ali.

Maziya's victory in this match is the first Maldivian victory against an Indian side in 13 years. Club Valencia was the last Maldivian side to win against an Indian team, after beating Mahindra United 2-4 back in 2003.

The second match between Mohun Bagan and Maziya will be played on the third of next month in Male'.
