Police probe vandalism of Islamic Center walls

Police have launched an investigation into the obscene graffiti sprayed on the walls of the iconic Islamic Center in the capital Male.

No suspects however have been arrested in connection to the incident thus far.

Islamic ministry's coordinator told 'Avas' that religious places must be respected by Maldivians despite differences within the community.

"Mosques hold a special place in Islamic culture. Everyone has to understand that mosques are the houses of Allah built upon this world," He commented.

Warnings had been written on the walls of the Islamic Center along with other graffiti. The Islamic Ministry have painted over obscenities.
