Ministry bans praying in courtyard of historic mosque

The Islamic Ministry has banned people from praying in the courtyard of the Bihuroaz Mosque, one of the more ancient mosques located in the capital Male City.

The courtyard of Bihuroaz Mosque is often used for prayers by locals, due to a lack of space inside the mosque.

Mohamed Ahusan, the Coordinator of the Islamic Ministry reported that the ban was prompted by the discovery of graves within the courtyard, noting that praying was still allowed within the walls of the mosque itself.

A mausoleum containing the body of one of the most famous Maldivian heroes, Muhammad Thakurufaanu Al Auzam is also located within the mosque's courtyard.
