Two arrested with drugs worth MVR1.6 mln

In a special operation carried out by the police last week, a large quantity of drugs with an estimated street value of MVR1.6 million was seized, police media revealed on Tuesday.

According to an interview the deputy of the Drug Enforcement Department (DED) inspector Aminath Suzy gave to police’s official media ‘Police Life’, in the operation that instigated on April 25, the DED searched two houses under a court warrant.

In the first house they searched, equipment used in re-packing and distributing the drugs, such as digital scales and smaller packets were found.

In the second house that the DED searched, 1.1 kilograms of cannabis, along with 91grams of another substance that is believed to be a drug was found, inspector Suzy had said.

Two individuals have also been arrested in relation to the bust, ‘Police Life’ had revealed. A 25-year-old man and a 29-year-old female were taken in to custody, and the criminal court has already remanded them for 10 days.

Earlier last month, the DED had seized 1.3 kilograms of drugs with an estimated street value of MVR 6 million. Two individuals – a Maldivians and a foreign nation were arrested in relation to this bust.
