Maldives seeks ADB aid for upcoming projects

Finance Minister Ahmed Munawar has stated that Maldives is looking to seek aid from Asian Development Bank (ADP) to finance the upcoming projects over the next three years.

Speaking to the press Tuesday at Velana International Airport before his depature to Japan to take part in ADB’s 50th Anuual Meeting, minister stated that revealing information on the upcoming projects and discussing the assistance needed in financing them are of utmost importance in the meeting.

“The meeting will allow me to meet with ADB’s president and vice president. We have hope of receiving financial assistance from ADB for our upcoming projects” stated Minister.

The minister also noted that he will be paying a courtesy call to Japan’s finance minister during his trip and expressed hope of the opportunity to discuss the projects and receive backing from Japan.

Minister Munawar had also requested major banks for assistance in establishing waste management and disposal systems in various islands of the Maldives.
