Ex councillor transferred to house arrest

Former city councillor Zaidul Ameen was transferred to house arrest on Monday.

Ameen, who formerly represented ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) in the Male City Council had been accused of blackmailing top government officials and was taken into custody on January 13.

Ameen faces three separate charges including illegally obtaining and disclosure of confidential information, and obstruction of rule of law.
