Govt adds three more islands to resort lease list

The tourism ministry has added three more islands to the list of islands the government is leasing for resort development.

The three new islands added to the list are; Kagi in Kaafu Atoll and Bodukaashi Huraa and Lonubui in Alif Dhaalu Atoll.

According to the new update from the tourism ministry, Kagi in Kaafu Atoll is a 2.5-hectare island that will be leased for USD 2.1 million.

Bodukaashi Huraa in Alif Dhaalu Atoll is a 2.4-hectare island, which will be leased for USD 1.7 million.

Lonubuni in Alif Dhaalu Atoll, which is a 2.1-hectre island appears to be the cheapest area up for lease for USD 1.5 million.

While the government added more islands that can be developed as resorts, renowned American hotel brand and management company Dream Hotel Group had announced that they will be developing two new resorts in Maldives, expected to be open by the end of 2020.

The two resorts Dream Hotel Group is developing in Maldives are; Chatwal Maaga Maldives, to be opened in 2019 in North Ari Atoll, while their second resort Dream Gasveli Maldives is scheduled to open at 2020, in Meemu Atoll.
