Flooding leaves Milandhoo in critical state

Heavy torrential rain has left Shaviyani Atoll Milandhoo in a critical state as flood waters gushed into several residences with no room to travel on roads.

According to Milandhoo council, the island was hit with heavy downfall in the early hours of Friday - which continued non-stop leaving the entire island flooded while several houses were affected with flood waters.

The flooding has made it difficult for land vehicle transportation as well - with motorbikes significantly submerged into the water.

Milandhoo Atoll Council had stated that they had not assessed the damage details of the island or others in the same atoll, but a team has been formed to study and evaluate the situation.

Last month's monsoon rain had resulted in several islands across Maldives getting affected - with Gaa Alif Atoll Vilingili being a notable victim.
