People's Majlis sitting on Wednesday proceeded with officials of Maldives National Defense Force blockading the parliament speakers seat from any altercation from the protesting opposition.
Several opposition-led lawmakers had gathered in front of parliament speaker Abdullah Maseeh's office prior to the sitting, chanting slogans of "go home" and "illegitimate Majlis" among several other criticism targeted at the speaker who, according to the opposition has lost confidence in complying his duty.
Maseeh entered the Majlis chamber surrounded by MNDF officials walling around him, protecting any expected act of force or altercation from the angry opposition.
Despite the resilience of the opposition and their chants, parliament proceeded with the two bills tabled for today's agenda - in which the President endorsed name for Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Mohamed Hussain Shareef was approved.
The incumbent Ambassador to Japan, Shareef received 28 votes in favor while none of the opposition voted their choice.
The other issue on table, was the debate for the participation of Maldives in Indian Ocean Rim Association which got approval through 27 votes.
Wednesday's heated Majlis proceedings comes in a long line of messy parliament house face-offs between the pro-government lawmakers and their opposition counterparts.
The series of heated verbal exchanged erupted back in July 24 when officials of MNDF and riot-gear laden officers of Maldives Police Service barred the entrance of opposition parliamentarians - resulting in a fierce riot breaking out that resulted in several members of the parliament being apprehended while some where dragged off the premises.
The situation gave birth after the opposition had filed a no-confidence motion against the Majlis speaker Abdullah Maseeh, questioning his integrity and alleging him to take a biased stand with the current government and state run party PPM.
