Egg attacks in parliament chamber ensues violence

Chaos ensued shortly after lawmakers had thrown poultry eggs at the Majlis speaker's seat during Thursday's proceedings, resulting in violence erupting between both wings of politicians.

Initially the attacker unknown - eggs were slammed into the room of parliament's minority leader Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Iboo). The lawmaker along with several opposition-allied members were present when the unsuspecting attack took place. Opposition MPs accused vice speaker of Majlis "Reeko" Moosa Manik of the hostility - however a video footage shot from Addu-Meedhoo constituency lawmaker Rozaina Adam, shows Manik denying the accusation.

"Moosa barged into the room and threw the egg into the room, it got slammed to the door" opposition member Falaah claimed.

MNDF officials were close to the vicinity when the incident took place, however when parliamentarians engaged in heated tirades and altercation, they had ignored to intervene.

Right after an unknown member had provoked anger between the parliamentarians, MP Fayyaz Ismail was seen chasing pro-government members, however he was held back by opposition members. Much like Wednesday's commotion, several members took part in slurring each other and used profanity while Dhaandhoo constituency member Assad and opposition lawmakers had been seen to physically assault each other.

Wednesday's Majlis sitting had followed similar suit with several lawmakers from both wings had participating in indecent criticism and cursing each other - with physical altercation between members.

Thursday's Majlis proceeding was the final sitting before going into recess. Parliamentarians will be taking a month's leave before Majlis re-commences.
