Environment Ministry has assigned the development of drinking water system in five different islands across the Maldives. The systems at Baa Atoll Kendhoo, Kaafu Atoll Gaafaru and Laamu Atoll Gan was assigned to Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited.
While the systems to be enacted at Shaviyani Atoll Milandhoo and Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru was awarded to Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
During the special ceremony held at Environment Ministry on Thursday, the MOU between Mohan Mutha and ministry was signed between the company's engineer Mr. Vivek and Minister Thoriq Ibrahim - similarly the MOU between MWSC and ministry was signed between the company's Deputy Managing Director Abdullah Saheel Jaleel and Minister Thoriq.
India's Mohan Mutha Exports were given a period of six months to complete the project - with project valuing at MVR 15.4 million. The projects will see installation of RO plantation and 50 ton storage tanks in both Kendhoo and Gaafaru while two 50 ton storage tanks will be installed at Gan along with an RO plantation.
Design works of the project were assigned to the Sri Lankan based Greentech Consultants back in September 6, 2015.
MWSC was granted the project for a price of MVR 87.9 million - with sixteen months to complete to development project. The project will see Milandhoo setup with a 29 kilometer water supply network with an 82 ton reverse-osmosis (RO) plant installed while Ungoofaaru will house a six kilometer water supply network with an 86 ton RO plant.
Previously water system development works of seven islands were granted specialized firms. All the projects are funded through OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and through government funding as well. The agreement between OFID and state was signed back in July 3, 2015.
