South Thinadhoo constituency member Abdullah Ahmed has criticized Elections Commission, stating the four lawmakers engulfed in recent political commotion are not the ones who have lost their seat, but the members of the commission have.
The lawmaker's angry tirade had heavily panned the commission's decision to hold by-election after affirming the lawmakers had indeed disqualified from their held constituents. A move which he pointed as a strict violation against the plain and simple verdict of Supreme Court, which had confirmed the four MPs were safe.
Article 16 of the Political Party Act which states that lawmakers from representing parties will not be disqualified over any disciplinary action taken against them - thus the EC decision holds no base. The south Thinadhoo lawmaker had tweeted a screenshot of the article as well.
Meanwhile Supreme Court's verdict on Sunday night has resulted in mass confusion between pro-government lawmakers and opposition members - with each wing comprehending the meaning of the ruling to their favor.
