City Council requests to close new port entrance

The Mayor of capital city Male', Sifa Mohamed has strongly recommended to close down the south side port entrance - which has become accident prone.

Mayor Sifa, spoke about closing vessel entry through the south side port of Male'. She highlighted over the various accidents and severe damages vessels took over the months. She had strongly recommended to seek an alternative approach for vessels to enter the mainland.

The south end of Male' is where the island's natural barrier lies making it difficult was the transition of vessels over the waves.

The Mayor pinpointed this out as she went on to emphasize the grave loss several individuals have faced due to such accidents.

Meanwhile deputy mayor Shamau Shareef stated that discussions were held between Housing Ministry and the then City Council bench. However, Shareef criticized Housing Ministry for proceeding ahead with enacting a port opening despite City Council's fair caution to properly assess and research the nature of the project prior to executing it.
