AP criticizes change to judge bench at High Court

Vice President of Adaalath Party, Ali Zahir has panned the move of Supreme Court to change the judge's bench at High Court. Zahir mocked the decision stating cases of politically affiliated individuals will proceed in rapid pace.

Supreme Court had issued order to put three of the judges working at High Court's south branch situated at Addu City, in office at Male' - the head branch of the court.

The judges will be working at High Court for a duration of three months - a decision the top court took stating it was done to speed up the process of cases, which currently has fallen behind of schedule.

Zahir tweeted the top court order, criticizing the move in a mock fashion, as he said "it won't be long when cases tied to politically associated individuals will proceed rapidly at High Court."

Earlier Zahir had tweeted a planned change to the judge's bench at High Court was in talks.

Meanwhile, Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Faris Maumoon, son of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom was not amused by the proceedings at High Court - where the judges' bench in-charge of his case reassigned it to chief judge's section. The lawmaker's case had been stagnant, resulting in growing concerns from the MP and his advocates.

Currently the south branch of High Court is benched by judges Abdul Ghanee Mohamed, Shuaib Hussain Zakariya. The third, Shujau Usman had been in Male' since he landed over certain warnings received due to the recess at the south branch. Hearings at High Court had been in pending without any constructive progress for the past six months - while judges bench have authority of visiting appeal cases, they had not proceeded with it.
