AG entitled to visit Supreme Court at convenience, says spokesperson

Progressive Party of Maldives' (PPM) spokesperson Ali Arif stated there is no rule that prohibits Attorney General from visiting the premises of Supreme Court at his own convenience - adding both entities fall under judiciary.

While speaking at a press conference held at PPM's office, Arif said a picture with who was believed to be the AG had circulated in social media platforms, however the individual appearing on the frame could have been anyone since the details were not visible. He also urged to validate facts before spreading news.

Arif also stressed that should the individual on the picture be revealed as Attorney General attending Supreme Court - at an unofficial hour - there is nothing wrong about it, explaining both AG and the Supreme Court belong to the same field; judiciary.

The PPM spokesperson also supported the idea of issuing verdict or warrants at unofficial hours, stating that justice should be executed regardless of time and hour; noting the importance of citizens' right over timely conduct on pressing matters.

Arif also pointed out the practice of court sentencing and verdict issue is not exclusive to Maldives but several neighboring countries follow the standard as well.
