Judges of south-branch courts commence work in Capital

Under order of Supreme Court, the incumbent judges at Addu City's High Court at Maradhoo-Feydhoo, have commenced work at Male's main branch of High Court for a period of three months.

High Court has corroborated the news stating that from Sunday onward all three judges who transitioned to the main branch will sit at the court's judges bench. All three judges will partake in the hearings carried out at High Court.

Two cases were scheduled for Sunday at High Court.

Supreme Court's order states that several cases that were conditioned for a completion period of six months' duration had not been concluded til date with a total of pending cases at 500. The top court had ordered for a swift assessment of these pending cases and trials and ordered the courts to conclude them in the earliest date possible.

According to Articles 141, 144 and 156 of Maldivian Constitution along with Article number 35 of Court Regulation Act, the three judges at Addu City High Court were shifted to Male's head branch without any hindrances to their cases at the south-branch. The order of Supreme Court dictates all three judges will officially commence work on October 5 for a duration of 3 months.

At the time Supreme Court issued its order, two judges Abdul Ghanee Mohamed and Shuaid Hussain Zakaria were at the bench of south-branch of High Court, with its third member Shujau Usman working at Male'. He had transitioned to main branch over warnings through Supreme Court for ongoing cases.

Meanwhile opposition alliance had shown concern for the stalling of Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon, who's case is currently awaiting its verdict.
