Three with terrorism charges over missing reporter's case

Three suspects who the state strongly alleges over close connection in the apparent abduction of Minivan News reporter Ahmed Rilwan, have been charged with terrorism.

The individuals are tried with terrorism charges by Prosecutor General's Office.

According to a media official of the Prosecutor General's office, the three suspects who are tried with terrorism charges on August 15 are Ahmed Aalif Rauf, Henveiru Hilton - Male', Mohamed Nooraddeen, Karankaage - Gaaf Dhaal Thinadhoo and Mohamed Suaid, Athiyaage - Seenu/Addu atoll Hulhudhoo.

While PG's Office has pressed charges against all three individuals, the trial has not commenced yet.

Both Aalif Rauf and Nooraddeen have been previously apprehended on suspicions of links to the case. However they were released back then, when summoned to court for remand extension.

While the missing reporter, who his family and friends strongly suggest was a clear case of abduction, has yet to be found the local police had revealed video information last year, providing details and progress of the investigation.

According to Maldives Police Service, on the night the Minivan News reporter was abducted he was being tailed by two individuals. Furthermore police had confirmed the hair samples collected from a car - under police impound that was connected to the case - came positive as Rilwan's after thorough DNA tests.
