Charges against Faris Maumoon illegitimate, says advocate

Dhiggaru constituency lawmaker Ahmed Faris Maumoon's legal aide, Maumoon Hameed states the final minute reversal on his charges has rendered the allegations against him null and void.

In a letter to Adam Arif, the chief judge of Criminal Court - advocate Hameed argues that his client Faris Maumoon was initially tried with grafting lawmakers regarding the parliament speaker's no-confidence motion. However Prosecutor General's Office had recently pressed charges on Maumoon over accepting bribe, which Hameed states is a complete opposite of the initial allegations, thus making the entire case filed against the lawmaker illicit.

Hameed also dicussed that the newly pressed charges came on September 11, breaching the due of criminal procedures' conduct.

Dhiggaru lawmaker's advocate had urged for the immediate release of Faris Maumoon based on the context that his trial no longer can be accepted over the conflicts.

While Faris Maumoon's case entered an en passe, Jumhoory Party leader and Villa Group head Qasim Ibrahim has been recently sentenced to a jail term of 3 years 2 months and 12 days of being guilty of grafting lawmakers during the no-confidence motion of parliament speaker Abdullah Maseeh.
