Chief Justice to meet advocates refusing petition sign

Chief Justice Abdullah Saeed has decided to hold a special reception in order to meet with practicing lawyers in Maldives.

The meeting is scheduled to start sometime on Monday night.

Chief Justice's special reception to meet with advocates come at a time when Supreme Court had issued suspension orders on 54 advocates of Maldives due to a petition filed at the top court. From the list of lawyers suspended 13 lawyers received revoke on their orders.

Another petition calling out for the dismissal of suspension orders, bearing 35 signatures from lawyers were filed at Supreme Court on Sunday. Lawyers had specified their concerns of suspending over one-third of practicing advocates.

However they were suspended for the alleged intervention on Supreme Court and judicial conduct - deemed as an offense.

While Chief Justice will discuss over the concerns and issues voiced by lawyers on Monday night's special reception, several advocates stressed that lawyers who signed on the petitions had not received invitation for the meeting.

Advocate Moosa Siraj, a prime engineer of the petition movement and the representing lawyer to former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb said all 54 lawyers who signed on the petition had not received invitation for Chief Justice's reception as well as the 35 advocates who signed on Sunday's one were excluded.
