Housing Minister's explanation uncivil, says Opposition

The political opposition of Maldives had strongly criticized Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for his apparent uncivil nature of answering and explaining the scrutinized sheltering scheme by government with a total of 661 apartment winners.

Opposition panned Dr. Muizzu stating his retorts during Monday's press conference from the Ministry detailing the apartment allocation procedure was irresponsible.

He then went on to stress the discretion kept while selecting successful candidates for apartments also hints possible corruption and nepotistic values involved in it. Calling it an injustice to the commoners.

Male' City's Mayor Shifa Mohamed focused on the issue of several applicants to the housing scheme receiving phone calls from President Abdullah Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim's campaign offices seeking opine over 2018 presidential election and demanding vote decisions for it. She stated that more than 50 cases were registered with the same issue, linking the apartment selection process to politically motivated initiatives.

The apartment winners list has become a publicly scrutinized issue entering Anti-Corruption Commission for probing while opposition has presented the case to parliament.
