City Council demands detail list of social flat scheme

Male City Council has demanded for a detailed list bearing names and crucial information of the winners of the government initiated social housing scheme, from Housing Ministry.

In a letter signed by Male' City's Mayor Shifa Mohamed - sent to Housing Minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday - she highlighted that under "Veshi Fahi" Male' program applicants submitted forms back in 2010 and several of the apparent winning candidates had received letters of confirmation for apartments from the ministry. She had also added that due to such transparency practiced back then, number of complaints lodged was minimum.

Male' City's mayor had furthermore stated in her letter about the recent social housing scheme's winners details kept discreet, adding several complaints have been filed and brought to notice of some winners accumulating lesser points through evaluation process had attained flats while several individuals who scored higher numbers had not received apartments.

A parliamentary government oversight committee has been scheduled for 10.30am on Wednesday regarding the scandalous social flat scheme - for Housing Ministry's continued refusal to bear details of winners.

Meanwhile the case has found its way into Anti-Corruption Commission, where probe may commence any day.
