Jumhoory Party leader to undergo heart surgery

Jumhoory Party leader and Villa Group's head Qasim Ibrahim is set to undergo a heart surgery sometime on Wednesday.

He is currently getting medical treatment at Singapore after receiving permission to fly abroad by Maldives Corrections Service. The Villa Group honcho who made headlines for being tried for grafting lawmakers during the no-confidence motion of parliament speaker Abdullah Maseeh was found guilty of the offense. He was sentenced to a jail term of 3 years 2 months and 12 days.

Shortly after the sentence, Home Minister Azleen Ahmed ordered relevant authorities to arrange Qasim Ibrahim's instantaneous transfer to abroad for medical attention.

Jumhoory Party's Secretary General Ahmed Sameer confirmed the party's leader would undergo heart surgery at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital sometime on Wednesday. He also added that the surgery's duration would be around an hour and half.

"The party's and our request from everyone is to pray for the well being of Qasim Ibrahim and for a swift recovery" Sameer said.

Previously a doctor from Singapore's Paragon Medical Center affirmed that the ailing Villa Group head requires a Coronary-Angiogram and Coronary-Angioplast examination and procedure. The consulting doctor to Qasim Ibrahim also urged that the politician requires a period of 3 months time in close inspection.

Before flying abroad to seek specific medical attention, Qasim Ibrahim was admitted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), ADK Hospital as well as Medica. In addition to this, a Correctional Service dispatched doctor had inspected Jumhoory Party head's condition and advised to seek further medical remedies.
