Housing minister Dr. Mohamed Muizzu confirms roughly 3,000 complaints received regarding the recently publicized list of winners for government's social housing scheme, adding that so far 60 amendments have been brought to the recipients' list.
According to housing minister the final list has been publicized after assessing all the complaints and issues related to the flat recipients' list.
Under the evaluation, married couples have been assigned to one flat for both - subjected to couples who placed forms for the scheme individually. Minister confirms a total of 2984 complaints received during the complaining window was opened to public.
Dr. Muizzu explained that after evaluation based on the complaints lodged 19 families made new entrees as recipients while 16 families were exchanged from the list, favoring the families that scored higher points under criteria to win flats. Apart from this, one family falling into the disability category had also been adjusted into the list. These changes were brought under category one.
The amendments were brought to the Male' residents category one and category two - the two categories open for flat receipt under the scheme.
Male' category two had a total of 24 amendments with 8 new entrees to the list. Another 8 families were booted off the list favoring families receiving higher scores than the ones initially listed.
Housing Minister had confirmed the final list following several adjustments and amends now bears a total of 704 as recipients.
Dr. Muizzu affirmed that prior to the signing of agreement with recipients their current living standard will be once again evaluated.
Although the final list came with a higher number of recipients and several adjustments Minister Muizzu declined to reveal the point structure of the flat winners.
Additionally four more islands under government housing scheme had opened for citizens to apply for flats. Temporary winners' list from all of these islands are out with Housing Minister affirming a final list after evaluation will be publicized soon.
Housing Ministry has concluded a monthly rent of MVR 6,000 with a down-payment of MVR 25,000 for each flat. The payment period spans to 25 years.
Meanwhile Anti-Corruption Commission and parliament are probing the social flat scandal.
