Suspects arrested attempting to dispose assault weaponry

A total of 12 suspects have been arrested while four of them were attempting to dispose off weapons used in stabbings.

Following the Friday night stabbings, officers of Maldives Police Service had barged into the residence of Maafannu Ethumaa and inspected the place. Police confirms that four suspects were arrested in presence of implements used in stabbings; and added that the suspects were attempting to destroy the weapons used in these incidents.

A group of assailants had attacked a civilian at G-Six Restaurant - in front of Peoples' Majilis; the parliament house - and fled the area. The victim received stabs on three places of his back, he was rushed into ADK Hospital for treatment.

Though victim was stabbed multiple times, Police and family confirms the victim's condition was stabilizing.

Police had confirmed that another eight suspects linked to the assault had been arrested as well making it a total of 12 suspects both directly involved and associated with the crime.

Another stabbing took place on Friday night at Hulhumale' - with one Haaris Abdul Qafoor, 25, stabbed multiple times.

Qafoor who was a patient at Half-Way House - the residential rehabilitation center of Hulhumale' - getting treatment for narcotics addiction was pronounced dead on arrival at Hulhumale' Hospital. Both Haaris and the G-Six victim were attacked as an act of revenge for the murder a week back in Maafannu.

Meanwhile two victims had died under mysterious circumstances the previous day, Thursday. An 18 year old teenage girl and a 22 year old adolescent boy were rushed to Hulhumale' Hospital at various hours on the eve of Thursday.

Both victims had died before getting medical attention, with the 18 year old teenager discovered floating at the swimming track area of Hulhumale' while the other, 22 year old Haameen collapsed during a football game.
