Former president Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has stated that the absence of mannerism or decent etiquette along with knowledge about adverse environmental aspects cause the frequent littering practiced by several - including youths.
He said that to counter this and promote awareness of the various environmental setbacks littering causes, an early education and awareness is necessary.
Speaking at the inauguration of the international conference on Multi-Disciplinary Research conducted by the research center of Maldives National University, the former president emphasized on providing education for students in molding them into environmental friendlies.
Dr. Waheed spoke of the importance of education and sustaining development, stating the proper utilization of the resources at disposal while living in a harmonious society is the characteristics of a progressive society.
