Villas blaze to ashes at Paradise Island

Disaster struck on early hours of Tuesday when two of the water villas situated at Paradise Island Resort incinerated resulting heavy damages to properties.

Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirms that a blaze incident took place in the resort island fire and rescue officials were at site attempting to control the spread of fire.

The resort has now confirmed the fire has been controlled by MNDF officials with the aid of resort personnel. The situation was brought under control using the fire brigade in Paradise Island Resort.

Though the blaze was violent in nature no casualties have been reported from the incident.

Fire struck on room numbers 717 and 718; adjoined villas in the resorts 68 water villa chain. From the two villas struck with fire, 718 has been damaged completely while the other sustained critical damage to the structure as well.

Fire struck moments after the tourists who stayed in both villas checked out at 08:30hrs on Tuesday morning.

It took officials and resort staff approximately 30 minutes to diffuse the fire completely. The situation was aided from the fact that it had rained and the atmosphere was damp.

The villas on the row of room 717 and 718 are constructed with wood.
