Probe commences on parliament lawmakers

Investigation on several lawmakers commence while the date draws close for parliament session resuming.

Largest opposition party Maldives Democratic Party (MDP) confirms its member and lawmaker of Vaikaradhoo constituency Mohamed Nazim has been ordered by Maldives Police Service to attend the authority premises on Thursday regarding an ongoing case.

However Police had not disclosed the nature or details of the investigation and Nazim's role of involvement in it.

Meanwhile Nolhvaram constituency lawmaker Hussain Areef's passport was confiscated on Tuesday barring him from traveling until next month due to the alleged assault MNDF officials at parliament chambers.

South Galolhu lawmaker Ahmed Mahloof is also being tried for the same offense.

Jumhoory Party's deputy leader and Kinbidhoo constituency lawmaker, former Commissioner of Police Abdulla Riyaz is under probe for the allegation of spreading falsified accounts of police conduct and the illegitimate provocation about government authorities to the public.

While several members are currently placed under investigation, opposition tied members were previously investigated and their cases handed over to Prosecutor General for pressing charges.

Under this a total of 12 lawmakers are on trial at Criminal Court.
