Culprits of Raajje TV arson not summoned to justice

Raajje TV has released a statement to commemorate four years since the channel's station was blazed by assailants.

The TV station had voiced their concern for the absence of culprits summoned to justice over the arson, stating that four years have passed without Raajje TV provided with the justice they deserve.

The statement released on Saturday had alleged several high profile individuals and government entitites behind the arson attack, adding the failure of providing justice on the case has been a growing concern of everyone working at the channel.

Raajje TV had also noted the sluggish paced trial over the arson attack of which one individual has been tried with by the state, stating the act was influenced and backed by elite members of the community. They characterized the whole trial as a satirical jab and pretense of providing justice.

State has pressed charges against one individual over the arson attack on Raajje TV. The convicted is one Mohamed Meeaadh, Henveiru Gasva. However the trial has been criticized for its unusually slow pace.

"Our hope is no other media channel has to face such a frightful tragedy that Raajje TV has experienced. We also hope and pray the Maldives will become a safer environment for journalists and journalism and act on the responsibility without intimidation and threats" Raajje TV's statement on Saturday read.
