A warehouse storing oil at Laamu Atoll Maabaidhoo burst into flames on early hours of Sunday resulting in irrecoverable damage to the premises.
The fire was reported to authorities around 11:40hrs on Sunday morning, and police confirms that although the damage to the building had been critical the incident left no casualties or injuries.
The initial work in killing the fire was carried out by the citizens of Maabaidhoo using water and sand. The island does not have a stationed fire fighter unit.
Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) confirmed of receiving information about the fire around 11:45hrs and the fire fighter unit at Kahdhoo of same atoll was dispatched to site.
The fire fighter unit confirms the fire was controlled around 12:40hrs using extinguisher foam.
