Raajje TV has filed a case against state government claiming a worth of MVR 11.6 million as damages, citing the government had excluded the provision of security to the media outlet.
The arson attack on Raajje TV station took place four years back on October 7, 2013.
The case presented to Civil Court claims for damages incurred to the station due to negligence. Raajje TV claims the arson attack was carried out on the station due to the lack of security support provided for the channel's station and thus government should be accounted as responsible.
Advocate representing the channel, Mohamed Nishan specified that the continued threats and intimidation received to the station was duly informed to authorities, requesting for protection. However the queries were not met or heeded by authorities.
Nishan furthered detailed that the audit report revealed Raajje TV sustained damages more than 11 million Rufiyaa and Maldives Police Service should be held responsible for negligence in providing necessary protection to the channel premises. He also said that apart from crime prevention policing authority is responsible for the safety and protection of public and individual properties.
Civil Court has accepted the case on behalf of Raajje TV on Monday.
Meanwhile the channel had voiced their concern on the delay of summoning the actual culprits behind Raajje TV arson attack to justice.
