Govt conducted research to assess crime hike reasons

President of Maldives Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has confirmed that a special report on the reasons for the hike in crime and criminal activity in recent times has been compiled.

While speaking at Monday night's special ceremony at Rasfannu Beach, President Yameen had confirmed that the state had handed a special unit to conduct thorough research in identifying and assessing the various reasons on increase of criminal activities and crime since 2008. The research has now been documented into paper as well.

President had also highlighted that the researched material had provided with adequate counter measures for the increase of criminal offenses. He added that the document has been handed over for evaluation in order to comprehend additional action necessary from government for a possible crackdown on serious and organized crime.

While President Yameen claimed about a research conducted on crime prevention, he had not disclosed details or findings from the research nor had he confirmed whether the report would be publicized.
